oh my god the siggi thoughts just keep coming tonight. more under the cut 😅
siggi has always been observant, ever since her parents started teaching her in the ways of leadership and negotiation when her father named her his heir. that, and her brothers have both always been terrible at masking their true emotions. it takes her all of one glance at erik when he returns back to beamfleot late one night after escorting aethelflaed somewhere to know something has changed.
she corners him and drags him into a dark corner before he can protest her. immediately she questions him, and at the look in his eyes she suddenly understands. grabbing his chin, she squints up at him before simply staring in shock.
“you care for her,” she says, hand still hovering between them. “erik, she is our prisoner. she is the christian king’s daughter.”
“i know!” he bats her hand away, before running both hands through his hair. “i know.”
siggi jabs him in the chest, demanding to know everything, but erik refuses and storms off into the night. he avoids her for days, until uhtred and the others arrive to negotiate for aethelflaed’s release.
after feasting with siegfried, and tormenting aethelread (much to finan’s reluctant delight), she finds erik stewing on the ramparts.
siggi makes one smart comment about the bargains made, and erik folds. he tells her everything. and siggi, after barely any hesitation, agrees to help him and aethelflaed escape. erik was always her favourite of her two brothers, and even she can see how frayed and infested with greed Siegfried has become. happiness has been so rare and fleeting for all of them in recent years, and more than anything she wishes her brother to be content.

Wagner Tenors ranked from least to most likable
* this is just my subjective opinion * Even my opinion varies * Only leading tenors (e.g. Lohengrin are counted. Not Loge or Mr Useless, Froh.) * May contain traces of sarcasm
8. Siegfried
Do I need to say anything more? That guy doesn’t have any respect for anyone, refuses to listen, to learn and probably would have cheated on Brunnhilde without a love potion too.
7. Lohengrin
Yes, he’s the knight in shining armour, but he’s also shady as fuck. No matter his intentions, by pressuring Elsa and giving her the only blame for their relationship failing he definitly also emotionally abuses her. No backstory and oh so beautiful love duets can help him.
6. Walther
I mean, he can be sweet. But his timing is terrible. Yes, I, the poor knight, want to become a Meistersinger just before one gets to marry the rich goldsmith’s daughter. Yes. You, my dude, care for the art and the arts only and maybe a little bit for Eva. He doesn’t even bother learning anything about siinging, he’s lucky he had maybe two good ideas. I kinda believe he’ll be a good husband anyway, even though @enricodandolo is completely right, he screams “murder” a little too often for any sane person’s opinion.
5. Erik
I don’t care for him, he’s boring and because he’s too boring to win his fianceés heart he decides on pressuring her by putting words in her mouth she (probably) never said and this way damaging her (not too healthy, let’s be honest) relationship with the flying dutchman.
4. Tristan
You can’t really judge Tristan from the opera considering he’s literally high as fuck most of the time, so most of his points are from the others being worse. Yep, him agreeing to get Isolde for Marke was questionable, to say the least, but he really seems concerned for her well-being. Also, how much of a choice do you have when the king wants you to bring him his future wife?
3. Tannhäuser
The poor man. I mean, of course he at least used to be arrogant and he treated Elisabeth like shit by leaving her for Venus. But the point of his opera is him developing and him just frankly doing his best. No point in demonizing a poor singing knight doing his best.
2. Siegmund
He fucks his sister, but apart from that he seems like a decent human being. His father abandoned him and now he’s trying his best to survive and to get along with other people. He did’t do much wrong, I’ll protect him.
1. Parsifal
He’s stupid but he learns. In the beginning he’s a very sweet boy, developes kind of an hero-complex, that leads him to just be a good man, so where’s the downside? He’s a kind, forgiving knight and since he cares 150% more than Amfortas will be a good king.

siggi arrives in eoferwic a few weeks before her brothers’ planned raid north into scotland, demanding that they instead take their armies back across the sea to avenge their father. being refused, and by her brothers no less, infuriates her, especially as the wound of what happened in norway is still freshly weeping. she had expected the news to rattle them, but siegfried seems mostly just glad to see her alive and well.
erik convinces her though that they must grow their power more in england first before venturing elsewhere. seeing his little sister’s festering anger and frustration, he is the one that offers for her to join them in the north. “perhaps spilling some blood will sate you for now, little sister,” erik says with a hand on her shoulder, “until the time is right to avenge our father?”
